Ph.D. position in quantum gravity phenomenology

The Szczecin Cosmology Group at the Institute of Physics of the University of Szczecin (http://cosmo.usz.edu.pl) are looking for candidates for a Ph.D. position in phenomenology of quantum gravity, black hole thermodynamics, and holography.

The research will focus on some specific topics like generalized uncertainty principle (GUP), generalized extended uncertainty principle (GEUP), nonextensive entropies applied to black holes and cosmological horizons (holography), observational bounds on the effects of quantum gravity. Candidates with good theoretical background in gravity, cosmology, and quantum field theory are welcome, though some numerical/observational expertise is also expected. The work will be under the supervision of prof. M.P. Dąbrowski and co-supervision of Dr. H. Gohar.

The position is for 4 years. A monthly stipend is initially 5000 PLN, raised to 6000 PLN after a positive mid-term evaluation. Some extra stipend from the University of Szczecin Rector’s budget is also possible. There is a possibility for a university-supported accommodation (around 900 PLN). Some reasonable travel budget is provided. The position will be attached to the Doctoral School of the University of Szczecin (https://szkoladoktorska.usz.edu.pl/en/home-2/).

It is aimed to fill in the position as soon as possible. The group are looking forward to receiving the applications by the 6th of December 2021 via email to mariusz.dabrowski@usz.edu.pl and hussain.gohar@usz.edu.pl. Later applications might be considered, depending on whether suitable candidates have been found for the position.

Applications should include: CV including the names of the referees, a motivation letter, a copy of the M.Sc. diploma and transcripts of the exams, a PDF copy of the M.Sc. thesis. It is advisable that at least 1 letter of recommendation is sent directly by a referee to prof. Mariusz P. Dąbrowski (mariusz.dabrowski@usz.edu.pl).
