Welcome to the Szczecin Cosmology Group, a dynamic research team founded in the early 1990s and comprised primarily of faculty members from the Institute of Physics and the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences at the University of Szczecin. With a rich history that spans over three decades, the Szczecin Cosmology Group has been at the forefront of advancing knowledge in the fields of theoretical cosmology and data analysis.
The theoretical arm of our research delves into the fundamental principles that govern the universe, exploring theoretical frameworks and models that help us comprehend the underlying structure and dynamics of the cosmos. Through rigorous mathematical and computational approaches, our theoretical research contributes to the broader understanding of the universe’s origin, evolution, and ultimate fate.
On the other front, our data analysis endeavors involve the meticulous examination of observational data from various astronomical sources. Armed with cutting-edge techniques and technologies, our researchers meticulously analyze vast datasets to extract meaningful insights into the properties of celestial objects, cosmic structures, and the overall makeup of the universe.

OPUS Grant
Prof. Vincenzo Salzano along with Prof. Denkiewicz won the OPUS 26 grant from National Science Center, Krakow, Poland - Top 2% Scientist Ranking
As presented in University of Szczecin news on October 12, 2023, according to Stanford University and Elsevier, Prof. M.P. Dąbrowski was placed in the TOP 2% ranking of the best scientists in the world. -
Publication in Science Advances
On April 24, 2020, an article titled “Four Direct Measurements of the Fine-Structure Constant 13 Billion Years Ago” was published in the prestigious research journal Science Advances. The paper, which focused on measuring the fine-structure constant (alpha) using the signal from the distant quasar J1120+0641, was co-authored by M.P. Dąbrowski, K. Leszczyńska, and K. Marosek from our Cosmology Group. This research was featured in the Polish Service “Nauka w Polsce” and “The First News”. The popular science service phys.org interviewed the project leader, Prof. John Webb of the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. Edited Volume on Fundamental Constants
Prof. Mariusz P. Dąbrowski, along with Dr. Ana Alonso-Serrano and Prof. Thomas Naumann, edited a special volume titled The Multiverse, which addresses physical and philosophical problems of fundamental constants and fundamental physical laws. -
Polish Prize of Smart Development
In recognition of the results of the MAESTRO-3 grant, the Forum of Smart Development awarded the Polish Prize of Smart Development in the category “Scientist of the Future” to Principal Investigator Prof. Mariusz P. Dąbrowski. The certificate was presented on June 10, 2019, during a gala at the Kopernik Science Centre in Warsaw, and the prize was awarded during the Forum of Smart Development at Uniejów Spa Park on November 28-29, 2019. -
Gravity Research Foundation Honorable Mention
The Gravity Research Foundation awarded an Honorable Mention in the 2018 Awards for Essays to Ana Alonso-Serrano, Mariusz P. Dąbrowski, and Hussain Gohar for their essay “Minimal Length and the Flow of Entropy from Black Holes”. -
